FALL 2009/WINTER 2010 PROGRAMS


TRADITIONAL CRAFT WORKSHOPS

During Fall of 2009, the following workshops were offered by local artisans for adults and youth:

  • Rug Hooking (Claudia Gahlinger)
  • Weaving (Esther Danielson)
  • Knitting at Cabot High School (Selma MacKinnon)
  • Wood Carving (Garfield Wilkie)
Stay tuned for information on the continuation of these workshops, and the announcement of new ones.

SQUARE DANCING

If you have always wanted to learn how to square dance, this is your chance! Dancing takes place with live music, and refreshments are provided. All are welcome and beginners are especially welcome. Instruction is provided. Dances will generally take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, but the dance night can vary depending on weather, holidays, etc.

SENIORS-YOUTH SKILLS TRANSFER GET-TOGETHERS

This Fall, the Museum held a series of 3-hour, Saturday afternoon workshops at which local experts provided training to youth in traditional skills and crafts, including:

  • Traditional Wooden Lobster Trap Building (Ron Ingraham)
  • Knot Tying Skills (Joe Buchanan)
  • Fishing Net Weaving and Repair (Joe Capstick)
  • Home Baking (Yvonne Daisley)
  • Homemade Molasses Candy Making (Hannah MacKinnon)
  • Salting of Mackerel (George MacLellan)
  • Old Fashioned Ice Cream Making (Deirdre and Rob Macdonald)

STORY TELLING SOCIALS

Beginning the last Sunday in January 2010, from 2 to 4 pm, and to be held in 5 local communities there will be monthly Story Telling Socials. Come with your stories, photos or artifacts of days-gone-by. Music and refreshments served up! Look for posters with location and dates, or contact the Museum at 383-2579 or Rob Macdonald at 383 2046. All welcome, especially children and youth!
